Chmess in the pages of Science

Dennett bad-mouths studying chmess, but it looks like chmessology has appeared in the latest issue of the esteemed journal Science.

Also, in case you haven't seen it, Greg Lavers wrote a good review of the Cambridge Companion to Carnap for NDPR, worth checking out.

To be fair, this is studying basic combinatorial properties of strange setups of the chessboard. I only read the abstract, so I don't know if the pawns are treated as real chess pawns, or just as impenetrable blocks, so that really you're just discussing the positioning of certain linear arrangements together on a board. A little abstruse, but at least you can see how it might relate to other sorts of simple packing problems, unlike strategy in chmess.
